Why is it called Tampines

Tampines used to be covered in forests, swamps, and sand quarries. Tampines is derived from the Malay word 'Tempinis,' which refers to a type of ironwood tree that grows abundantly in the area.

In 1979, Tampines Town was the first to be built on a precinct model (with neighbourhoods and precincts) to encourage neighbourliness. In 1992, it was also awarded a UN World Habitat Award for its urban design.

Tampines has evolved into one of Singapore's most developed regional centres, serving populations in the eastern section of the island.

Some interesting facts about living in Tampines

Singapore is known for its abundance of natural greenery and open spaces and we affectionately refer to ourselves as 'The Garden City.'

Tampines, on the other hand, is a neighbourhood with some amazing, one-of-a-kind spaces that you won't find anyplace else in Singapore.

Tampines Eco Green is the first. This 36-hectare park is both flora and wildlife sanctuary and a natural recreation area.

It is Singapore's sole park with a variety of habitats, such as open grasslands, marshes, freshwater ponds, and even a secondary rainforest.

Tampines Quarry Park is another 'off the beaten path' beauty. The location is not well-marked, and there is no official entrance or facility.
